action
Alien - The creepy creature from a strange world
In 2122, the cargo spacecraft Nostromo received a radio message from the planet LV-426. This is initially interpreted as a call for help. While exploring the planet, the crew of the Nostromo discovers a strange but apparently abandoned spaceship.
Aliens - The Return
57 years later, in 2179, Ripley's rescue shuttle is recovered. Ripley initially struggles to explain her experience on LV-426. This planet has been colonized for several years now. Only when the radio contact is lost, a troop of soldiers together with Ripley is sent on the ship Sulaco to LV-426 to investigate the situation.
Alien 3
A fire broke out on board the Sulaco in the same year 2179. As a result, the sleeping pods are pushed off the mother ship by a rescue shuttle. It lands on Fury 161, a prison colony for male felons.
Alien - The rebirth
In 2379, Ellen Ripley was cloned by scientists aboard the Auriga with an alien queen in her stomach. Ripley unexpectedly survives the procedure in which the queen is removed. While the new Ripley, number 8, begins to study, the alien is reproducing. The necessary hosts are supplied in the form of colonists by the space pirates around Elgyn.
Prometheus - Dark Signs
In the year 2089, the archaeologist couple Elizabeth Shaw and Charlie Holloway found cave paintings all over the world with one and the same being, which always points to the same constellation. Shaw interprets this as an invitation from the so-called constructors to their home planet. The matching star system is Zeta 2 Reticuli , to which the two fly on board the Prometheus accompanied by other researchers, the android David and the representative of the Weyland sponsoring company, Meredith Vickers . Once there, they land on the moon LV-223 and examine pyramid-like structures that cannot be of natural origin.
Alien: Covenant
The spaceship Covenant is on a colonial mission in 2104. Due to an incident, repair work has to be carried out on the ship's sun shield. A crew member receives radio signals during these repairs. These signals can be interpreted and traced back. You seem to come from a planet that seems much better suited for a colonial mission and is much closer than the original destination. The crew decides to head for the new, unknown planet.

background
- The creation of the franchise is closely linked to Ridley Scott. The idea for the story and the script came from Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett .
- The film Alien - The uncanny creature from an alien world is credited for establishing a woman as the leading actress in the action genre . Director Ridley Scott made this a condition to direct the film.
- The alien itself was designed by the Swiss artist HR Giger ; The aliens are outwardly similar to a skeleton or of an appearance that HR Giger himself referred to as "biomechanoids". The alien's head is elongated and smooth, but it has no eyes; Giger wanted to prevent the use of the phrase “We are being watched”.
- The creature has no specific name or is not known. Instead, it is called alien and organism in the first film , later also monster , thing or the Xenomorph ( Greek xénos : strange / strange; morphé : shape / form), which is also popular with fans from film 2 .
- David Fincher made his debut as a feature film director in Alien 3 . However, he was not satisfied with the result because Fincher had to bow to many of the producers' wishes.
- In Predator 2 from 1990, it was suggested that the two film series Alien and Predator are set in the same series universe , since Danny Glover finds an alien skull there in the Predator's spaceship. From this allusion the idea for the crossover films arose.
- In February 2015, director Neill Blomkamp , who had previously attracted attention with his science fiction films District 9 and Elysium , announced that he would direct a fifth part of the main series for 20th Century Fox . Sigourney Weaver, with whom Blomkamp had already worked on Chappie , should also take over her role again. With the start of shooting of the second prequel Alien: Covenant , these plans were put on hold.
Trivia
- In almost every movie, the alien's number of fingers changes. If there were six fingers on each hand in the first film, this number is halved in Aliens , but they appear much longer and more skeletal. In The Rebirth there are finally four, two longer middle fingers, enclosed by two shorter ones.
- In 1980 the Italian film Alien, the seeds of horror is returning , the title suggests that it is a continuation of the 1979 film. However, there is nothing in common in terms of content.
- On the Scottish Paisley Abbey was during renovation work at the beginning of the 90's, under which most of the Gargoyle (Gargoyle Engl.) Were replaced, one of them made in the form of an alien.
- The first flight of the U.S. spaceship Crew Dragon in 2019 was an anthropomorphic device on board , which was named Ripley in allusion to the main alien character .
