Rani Hamid (born Sayeda Jasimuunessa Khatun ; Bengali : রাণী হামিদ , Rāṇī Hāmid ; born July 14, 1944 in Sylhet ) is a Bangladeshi chess player .
Life
She learned the rules of chess from her father when she was five years old, but she only started practicing seriously when she turned 32, when the Soviet GM Anatoly Lutikov was teaching there on behalf of the Bangladesh Chess Federation. She wrote the Bengali chess book Daba Khelar Ain Kanun (Anannya, Dhaka 2004). Her eldest son, Emperor Hamid, is a well-known football player in Bangladesh . He played for the Bangladesh national team in the 1980s and 1990s . The younger brother Suhail Hamid won the squash championship in Bangladesh. The youngest son Bobby Hamid played in the 1st soccer league of Bangladesh for the club Mohd Sporting . In 1989 she was awarded the Jatio Podok , a national prize.
successes
Rani Hamid has taken part in all chess Olympiads with Bangladesh since 1984 , she played in the open class in 1984, 1988 and 1992 , and in the other events in the women's competition. With the women's national team of Bangladesh, she also took part in the Asian team championships in 2003 and 2009 as well as the chess competition of the 2010 Asian Games .
The official Bangladesh women's championship, which has been held 29 times since 1979, won it 17 times up to and including 2008. The Open British Women's Championship, in which all Commonwealth chess players are allowed to take part, she won in Southport in 1983 , in Edinburgh in 1985 and in Plymouth in 1989 . At the 2015 Commonwealth Championship in New Delhi , she won a gold medal among senior women.
In 1985 she was awarded the title of International Women's Champion (WIM). Until 2011, she was the only chess player in Bangladesh to receive this award from the World Chess Federation FIDE .
