In addition to his artistic work with stencils and installations, he works in the field of corporate art on the branding of large international companies. He became known to the general public with his minute of silence project (Traiskirchen) . The protest single with 60 seconds of silence was number 1 in the Austrian charts for a week in 2015 .

Life

Raoul Haspel comes from a family of artists. His grandfather was a restaurateur, his father a sculptor and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . He visited “Die Graphische” in Vienna and then studied film and fashion at the Medienskole in Copenhagen in Denmark . He completed the digital art course at the University of Applied Arts Vienna with Peter Weibel , Tom Fürstner, Ruth Schnell and Virgil Widrich in 2009 with a diploma in visual media design .

In his artistic work he does not commit himself, but was active in various areas. In addition to installations, graphics and action art, he also dealt with architecture, industrial design and advertising. He also devotes himself to commissioned art for large companies and created “corporate art” for large brands such as Red Bull , Breitling , Moët Hennessy and Mærsk, among others .

He became known on the Internet when he posted the picture of a Vietnamese 100,000 dong banknote on his Facebook page to presenter Armin Wolf in 2013 for achieving 100,000 likes , on which he had redesigned the face of Ho Chi Minh into Wolf's .

When the European refugee crisis escalated in 2015 and the Traiskirchen refugee camp south of Vienna was completely overcrowded, which led to untenable conditions, Haspel decided to launch an artistic protest. He released a minute's silence on single, i.e. a track of 60 seconds without any sound or noise. This was planned as a serious chart campaign in which the buyers of the single could express their protest and at the same time donate the purchase price to a refugee organization. The project was successful and on September 4, 2015, the minute of silence (Traiskirchen) took first place in the charts. At the Voices for Refugees concert in Vienna, he also performed the minute of silence in front of an audience. The campaign was reported internationally in the media.
