Raoul Nordling

Raoul Nils André Nordling (born November 11, 1882 in Paris , † October 1, 1962 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) was a Swedish diplomat and businessman. He attended the traditional Parisian high school Lycée Janson de Sailly and joined his father's company. From him he also took over the post of consul general.

Nordling became known through his mediation between the French Resistance and the German city ​​commander General Dietrich von Choltitz in 1944. Nordling was consul general of Sweden in Paris at the time.

The result of the negotiations was that the destruction of Paris ordered by Adolf Hitler could be prevented. For his services he was awarded the Croix de Guerre in 1949 and the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor in 1958 .
