Rasmus Paludan

Rasmus Paludan (born January 2, 1982 ) is a Danish lawyer and founder of the immigration and Islamophobic party " Stram Kurs " (hard course).

background

Family, early childhood, and personal circumstances

Rasmus Paludan was born in Nordsjælland and has a sister, Tine Paludan, a well-known Danish poet, and a brother, Martin Paludan, author and member of the alternative party (Die Alternative), a left-wing party for climate protection and more immigration and asylum for the he acted as a manager of social networks.

During an indictment against Rasmus Paludan in 2015, he stated that a car accident had changed his personality: he was hardly patient with mistakes made by others because they would personally frustrate him. A neuropsychological examination and an examination by a specialist in psychiatry found that Paludan had neurological damage after the car accident, which led to cognitive impairment; the degree of disability was estimated at 25%, which is also the percentage of the limitation of his ability to work according to medical examinations.

education

In 2000 he graduated from high school in Helsingør . In 2001 he began to study law and in 2008 became a cand.jur at the University of Copenhagen . He had the ninth-highest grade point average after his bachelor's degree.

job

During his student days he worked for Kormann Reumert in 2004 and did an internship for the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague . He has been working as a freelance lawyer since 2014. In his legal career he represented many system critics and self-proclaimed freedom activists. In addition, he has also led a number of cases about the use of medicinal cannabis . In 2017, Paludan was a defense attorney for a 42-year-old from Nordjylland who was charged with blasphemy for allegedly burning the Koran . This was the first blasphemy charge in Denmark in 46 years. The Danish government, however, abolished the blasphemy paragraph and so there was no conviction.

On October 22, 2016, Rasmus Paludan represented a refugee who was about to be deported from Denmark. This generated media interest, as Rasmus Paludan is known for his positions critical of immigration and refugees.

politics

Political career

Rasmus Paludan initially got involved with the social liberal party Radikal Venstre and its youth organization Radikal Ungdom , whose main committee (board) he was a member in 2003. In 2009 he ran for the EU-skeptical voters' association JuniBevægelsen in the 2009 European elections , which, however, missed entry into the European Parliament. Later he was a member of the right-wing liberal party Venstre .

In September 2016, Paludan switched to the newly founded anti-immigrant party Nye Borgerlige . On January 28, 2017, he was run as the party's candidate for the Copenhagen City Council, but had to leave the party on February 10, when one of his speeches for the organization “For Frihed” (October 2016) became known. There he said u. a. “ [M] ens vi står her i dag, så er the hundredetusinder, som sidder hjemme og klargør deres våben og øver sig på at ramme med deres rifler ” (while we stand here today, hundreds of thousands of Danes are at home, preparing their weapons and practice shooting) and talked about a possible civil war in Denmark against “ de Fremdmede fjender ” (the foreign enemies), where “ [v] ores gader og stræder vil blive forvandlet til floder af blod. Og de Fremdmede fjenders blod vil ende i kloakken, hvor de Fremdmede fjender hører hjemme ”(Our streets and paths will turn into rivers of blood. And the blood of foreign enemies will end in the sewers, where foreign enemies belong). Peter Seier Christensen from Nye Borgerlige was shocked by Rasmus Paludan's statements and described his speeches as completely unacceptable.

Shortly after leaving the Nye Borgerlige, Rasmus Paludan founded Dansk Samling (Danish Collection), whose name he changed to Stram Kurs (Harter Kurs) in 2017 .

Political positions

His party Stram Kurs would like a ban on Islam in Denmark and that non-Western immigrants be deported.

Controversies and convictions

April 2019: Criminal law §266 b

In April 2019, Rasmus Paludan was sentenced to 14 days of conditional prison under Section 266 b of the Danish Criminal Code. Popularly this paragraph is also called the racism paragraph . The court sentenced him because he is said to have drawn a parallel between Africans and low-intelligence: “ Yes, når man som Bwalya Sørensen og som de fleste negere in South Africa ikke er begavede nok til at kunne se, hvordan tingene rent faktisk forholder sig, så He det meget his kun at se i sort / hvid, og som says give skylden til de hvide. “(Yes, if like Bwalya Sørensen and most of the negroes in South Africa you are not gifted enough to see how things really are, then it is much easier to see everything in black and white and, as I said, blame the whites to give). The court also saw aggravated circumstances as they evaluated the video published on YouTube with the testimony of April 2, 2018 as propaganda. Rasmus Paludan appealed. An appeals court upheld Paludan's conviction in July 2019.

June 2020: Racism paragraph, insults and dangerous driving

In June 2020, Rasmus Paludan was sentenced to 3 months in prison under Section 266 b of the Danish Criminal Code and was banned from practicing law for three years. The court also saw aggravated circumstances as it classified his racist remarks as propaganda. To make matters worse, he had already been convicted of racism in 2019. In addition, he had to pay damages to a woman for calling her a sex worker. He was also charged with dangerous driving. This was also confirmed by the court.

In connection with a planned renewed burning of the Koran in Malmö in August 2020, Paludan was banned from entering Sweden for two years .
