Rasmus Østergaard Würtz (born September 18, 1983 in Skive ) is a Danish football player . Würtz currently plays as a midfielder for both the Danish first division Aalborg BK and for the Danish national team .

biography

During his youth, Rasmus Würtz played for his hometown club, Skive IK, and made his debut in the A-Team there. In November 2001 Würtz moved to the Danish first division club Aalborg BK (AaB), where he signed a 3½-year contract. However, he was awarded to the club Skive IK for the remaining six months of the 2002/03 season. At AaB, Würtz quickly established himself as a regular player and played 32 of 33 games in his first season in the Danish Super League .

Rasmus Würtz played in 52 games for various youth national teams. Among other things, he took part in the U-17 European Championship in 2000 and the U-19 European Championship in 2001. In 2001 he was named Danish U-19 Player of the Year.

His debut for the Danish U-21 national team took place in August 2002, and in September 2004 he took over the position of team captain from Jan Kristiansen .

Like Daniel Agger , Rasmus Würtz made his debut on June 2, 2005 in a friendly against Finland for the Danish national team. In this game he was substituted on for team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson , who handed him the captain's armband. Würtz was supposed to hand the armband to Vice-Captain Thomas Gravesen , but the latter informed him that he should keep it for himself. Thus Rasmus Würtz was made captain in his debut game for the Danish national team for the last nine minutes of the game.

After his debut for the Danish national team, Würtz also acted as captain of the Danish U-21 team at the U-21 European Championship in 2006 . In the preliminary round match against Italy, Rasmus Würtz also scored his first goal for the U-21 national team. After the team left the competition, Würtz ended his career in the U-21 team after a total of 29 games due to his age.

In January 2007, Würtz was called up as captain for the tour of the national team of the Danish League in the United States, El Salvador and Honduras and completed all three games of this tour.

On July 6, 2007, he signed a five-year contract with Danish champions FC Copenhagen . After numerous injuries he was hardly used at FCK so that he was awarded to Vejle BK, who was threatened with relegation at the time, during the winter break in 2009 , but could not prevent relegation. Two years before the end of his contract, he moved back to Aalborg BK , where he played between 2002 and 2007.
