The Rather SV (officially: Rather Spielverein 1919 eV ) is a football club from the Rath district of Düsseldorf . The first team played for three years in the highest amateur league in the Lower Rhine region.

history

The club was founded on February 16, 1919 and played temporarily in the second division in the 1920s. The former handball department reached the finals for the West German Championship at this time. A shortage of young talent meant that the department had to be closed in 1938. After the end of the Second World War , the Rathern succeeded in advancing to the district class in 1947. Two years later, in the relegation against TSG Karnap 07 , the team missed the leap into the state league , the highest amateur league at the time on the Lower Rhine. Finally, in 1953, he was promoted to the national league. Three years later, the game club missed qualifying for the newly created Association League Niederrhein in twelfth place .

After a fourth place in the 1957/58 season, the Rather had to relegate to the district class a year later. In 1970 he was promoted to the national league, which was followed by immediate relegation as a knocked-off bottom of the table. The Rather were then passed through to the district class before they could rise again in 1975 to the district class. Then the Rather game club became an elevator team between the district and district league. In 2012, the team was promoted to the district league again, which was followed by promotion to the regional league three years later.
