Ron Gomboc

Ron Gomboc , actually Ratimir Marijan Gomboc (born November 6, 1947 in Ljubljana , Yugoslavia , today Slovenia ), is an Australian artist of Slovenian origin, who is particularly known for his sculptures .

biography

Gomboc attended school in Novi Vinoldolski, Croatia, and emigrated with his parents to Perth in Western Australia (WA) in 1961 .

In the years from 1961 to 1969 he completed his apprenticeship in cabinet making, carpentry and building trade and then did his military service as a member of the Australian pioneer group until 1972 .

He then studied painting, drawing, sculpture and graphics at the Claremont School of Art , Midland Technical College and Perth Technical College from 1971 to 1982 . In between, he went on a study trip to Europe in 1978. After completing his studies, he founded the Gomboc Gallery Sculpture Park in Middle Swan , a suburb of Perth, in 1982 , which serves him as a gallery and exhibition space, but also as a studio. In 1984 he taught at times at the Western Australian Institute of Technology (WAIT), today's Curtin University of Technology, the techniques of the lost wax process and bronze casting . He conveyed this in 1986 as part of a workshop at the La Salle Art College in Singapore on the occasion of an invitation from the local Ministry of Culture and Development. In the same year he also taught a sculpture class at Balcatta Senior High School . In 1987 he went on a study trip to Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan , where he deepened his knowledge and skills of the wax melting process and bronze casting under the guidance of Ju Ming . In Italy he learned the techniques of marble working and foundry from Pietra Santra in 1989 and in the same year went on a study trip to Bangkok .

Gomboc has taken part in numerous national and international solo and group exhibitions, to which he has often been invited, many of which he organized himself. He has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Western Australia Art Gallery since 1993 and has been a member of the Midland College of TAFE Governing Council since 2000 . He has received several awards for his work.
