Raußmühle near Eppingen

The Raußmühle is located in the southwest of the Eppinger district, on the Himmelreichbach in the direction of Sulzfeld .

history

The Raußmühle was first mentioned in a document in 1334. The name goes back to the miller Heinrich Ruthards, after whom the mill was named Rußmühl in 1364 , from which the sound shift around 1500 then became Raußmühle . The miller family who lived there , called Rußmüller , Raußmüller and Rauschmüller because of the inconsistent spelling , came into possession of the property around 1600. The family gained greater importance in Eppingen and, in addition to three Eppinger mayors, also provided church leaders, forester, post office keepers and landlords.

During the Thirty Years' War , the property, which was located far outside the city walls of Eppingen, was probably a frequent target of attacks by marauding soldiers, was rebuilt several times after being destroyed and often changed hands. The current fortified construction of the estate, as a U-shaped system with loopholes in stables and barn, probably dates back to the time of the Thirty Years' War. The main building was renovated in 1765 by the millers Christoph and Leopold Weigand. The Weigands were business owners in Eppingen who had the mill operations in the Raußmühle provided by a mill servant . In addition to the grain mill, the plant also included a hemp grater .

After several more changes of ownership in 1861, the mill came into the possession of the Müller family Brunner ranks , they managed initially itself, from the 1920s but then leased. The leaseholder Friedrich Filsinger built a diesel generator to supplement the overshot waterwheel around 1930, and he also ran a pig farm. The last tenant from 1952 on was Hermann Jandl, who was still repairing the mills, but stopped operating the mill in 1958 at the instigation of the owners. In the following years fodder grain was cut there for a few years, then the property fell into disrepair. The barn roof collapsed and the inner courtyard of the facility was used as a scrapyard.

In 1976 the mill came into the possession of the painter and antiques dealer Frank G. Dähling, who gradually renovated the property with the support of Heimatfreunde Eppingen and the UN-European heritages (work) campuses. In 1996 the property was recognized as a European Cultural Heritage.

Archive for the history of rural life

Today it houses the archive for the history of rural life , a private folklore collection of rural material culture with numerous mousetraps from the Middle Ages to the present day, Maltersacks , board chairs, locks and keys as well as various objects of popular belief . A late medieval smoke kitchen originally from Kleingartach was also set up there.
