Raul Nicolau Gonsalves
Raul Nicolau Gonsalves ( Portuguese spelling: Gonçalves , born June 15, 1927 in Bambolim , India ) is Patriarch emeritus of the East Indies and old archbishop of the Archdiocese of Goa and Damão .
Life
Raul Nicolau Gonsalves was ordained a priest on July 11, 1954 .
Pope Paul VI appointed him on January 5, 1967 auxiliary bishop in Goa and Damão and titular bishop of Rapidum . The Archbishop of Melbourne , James Robert Knox , donated him episcopal ordination on March 5 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Francisco Xavier da Piedade Rebello , Apostolic Administrator of Goa and Daman, and Andrew Alexis D'Souza , Bishop of Poona .
Gonsalves was named Patriarch of the East Indies and Archbishop of Goa and Daman on January 30, 1978.
On January 16, 2004, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
