Raxaul ( Hindi रक्सौल Raksaul ) is a small town in the Purba Champaran district in the Indian state of Bihar . It lies on the Indian-Nepalese border next to Biganj and is a transition from road and rail to Nepal . In Raxaul is a large train station in northeast India .
Demographics
According to the Indian census of 2001, Raxaul Bazar has a population of 41,347 (46% women, 54% men). The literacy rate is 58%, which is below the national average of 59.5%. 18% of the population of Raxaul Bazar is under six years old.

Raxaul is part of the Barauni – Gorakhpur, Raxaul and Jainagar lines. It is connected via direct links to Delhi , Mumbai , Calcutta , Bengaluru , Indore , Bhopal , Jabalpur , Patna , Lucknow and several other cities. The Satyagraha Express, Saptkranti Superfast and the Sadbhavana Express Raxaul travel from Delhi.
Streets
Raxaul is connected to other cities by the 28A National Highway . There is a bus terminal called "Baba Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bus Terminal" which provides the state bus service to most cities in Bihar.

There is a civil airport which only receives domestic flights and is located 27 km outside the city.
Border crossing
India and Nepal are linked by an open border. In Raxaul there is a customs duty for goods and people of other nationalities.

The "Duncan Hospital" is the only hospital for three districts in northern Bihar (6 million) and southern Nepal (5 million) and thus has a theoretical catchment area of approximately 11 million people. Obstetrics, gynecology, internal medicine, operations, orthopedics, paediatrics, dentistry and radiology are offered. It was founded in 1930 by Dr. H. Cecil Duncan founded.
