Raymond Gallois-Montbrun

Raymond Gallois-Montbrun (born August 15, 1918 in Saigon , † August 13, 1994 in Paris ) was a French violinist and composer.

Life

Gallois-Montbrun studied from 1930 to 1942 at the Conservatoire de Paris violin with Firmin Touche , harmony with Jean Gallon , counterpoint and fugue with Noël Gallon and composition with Henri Busser . After a Second Grand Prix in 1942, he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome in 1944 with the cantata Louise de la Miséricorde .

After the stay at the Villa Medici in Rome (1946 to 1948) associated with the award, he attended courses for violin and composition at the Institut Francais in Tokyo from 1952 to 1954 . From 1944 he traveled as a violinist through Europe, North Africa, the Near and Far East and made radio and recordings. In 1955 he was awarded the Prix ​​de la Ville Paris as a composer , and in 1957 he received the Prix ​​Italia for the chamber opera Le Rossignol de l'Empereur .

In 1957 Gallois-Montbrun became director of the Conservatory of Versailles, from 1962 to 1983 he directed the Conservatoire de Paris , and until 1967 also its Société des Concerts . In 1980 he succeeded Paul Paray as a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts . From 1983 to 1992 he headed Concous international Long - Thibaud .
