[re: jazz] is a jazz band from Germany. The head of the band is pianist and arranger Matthias Vogt . The permanent line-up of the live band also includes singer Mediha Rustempasic (since 2011, previously Inga Lühning ), saxophonist Oliver Leicht , guitarist Jan Stürmer (since 2006, before that Hanno Busch ), percussionist Heiko Himmighoffen , bassist Andreas Manns and drummer Volker Schmidt. Together with Matthias Vogt, the latter also form the Matthias Vogt Trio, from which [re: jazz] emerged, and which also play and record as a separate band.

Band history

The first album [re: jazz] from 2002 was created on the idea of ​​Infracom label makers Jan Hagenkötter and Namé Vaughn . Matthias Vogt was commissioned by the two of them to create acoustic jazz arrangements of Infracom titles. In addition to Vogt's trio, numerous guest musicians were invited to the studio, including Till Brönner , Joy Denalane , Erik Truffaz , Nathan Haines and Linda Carriere . The [re: jazz] project became a permanent live band; Work soon began on the second album, Point of View , this time with acoustic jazz versions of electronic pieces from the Infracom environment, e.g. B. "Donaueschingen" from the Compost label . Well-known guests were also present, including Nils Petter Molvær , Viktoria Tolstoy , Nils Wogram and tok tok tok . In 2006 the third album by [re: jazz] was the first to hear his own pieces, but also cover versions of well-known electronic pieces such as “Finally” by Ce Ce Peniston or “Rock It” by Herbie Hancock .
