Real Madrid TV is a Spanish television broadcaster . It is owned by Real Madrid and broadcasts a specialty program for the sports club around the clock .

history

The television channel Real Madrid TV was launched in 1998 on the joint initiative of the media company Sogecable and the sports club Real Madrid , who founded the media company Real Madrid Audiovisual in equal shares for this purpose . It was first broadcast on February 14, 1999 on the pay-TV platform Canal Satélite Digital (now Movistar + ). In 2001, the association acquired the company shares from Sogecable and was henceforth the sole owner of the station. From July 2003, Real Madrid TV was broadcast on Astra 19.2 ° East and Hispasat 30 ° West via the Digital + platform, which resulted from the merger of Canal Satélite Digital and Vía Digital .

In 2005, the channel changed its strategy and from February broadcasted as free TV via the satellite operators Astra (19.2º East) and Hispasat (30º West). An English-language version of Real Madrid TV was added in August of this year. The director of the television channel at that time was the well-known Spanish journalist Antonio García Ferreras , who, with the opening, aimed to reach as large an audience as possible. During Ramón Calderón's tenure , the free broadcasting was discontinued for cost reasons, Real Madrid now broadcast on the pay-TV platforms Digital + ( DVB-S ) and Imagenio ( IPTV ).

With the return of Florentino Pérez as president of the sports club, there was another change in strategy with the aim of opening the station to the largest possible audience. Since December 2014, the channel has been available free of charge in Spanish and English via the association's official mobile app . In addition, the club tried to acquire a Spain-wide DVB-T license. This was finally granted to them in September 2015. On April 23, 2016, Real Madrid TV began broadcasting nationwide on HDTV .

For the production is Royal Media Internacional , a subsidiary of Mediapro responsible.
