Rebecca Barry

Rebecca Barry (* around 1975 in Mobile , Alabama ) is an American saxophonist who works in jazz and funk as well as rhythm and blues .

Barry, who comes from a family of shrimp fishermen, went to high school in Fairhope (graduated in 1992). Then she studied music at Loyola University New Orleans (with Tony Dagradi ) and jazz with Ellis Marsalis and Ed Peterson at the University of New Orleans (Master in Jazz Studies 1998).

In 1999 her debut CD And Then Some was released (with Victor Atkins and Mike Pellera on piano, James Singleton and Bill Huntington on bass and Johnny Vidacovich and Jason Marsalis on drums), some with their own compositions. In 2003 the album New Hope was released with her band Bust .

She also played with Cyril Neville , P-Funk by George Clinton , George Porter Jr. , The Coasters , Michael Ray (Cosmic Krewe), Lou Rawls , Dave Liebman , Rick Margitza , Ellis Marsalis and Kermit Ruffins . In addition to the saxophone (alto, tenor, soprano) she also sings, played the flute and keyboard.

In 2005 she released with The Headhunters Rebecca Barry and the Headhunters (with Mike Clark, Paul Jackson, Bill Summers, Victor Atkins and Mike Pellera). She also worked as a music teacher in New Orleans and then in Mobile and Baldwin County (Alabama) , where she also appears with two of her own bands.
