Rebutia ritteri is a species of plant in the genus Rebutia from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet ritteri honors the German cactus specialist Friedrich Ritter .
description
Rebutia ritteri grows sprouting with spherical to short cylindrical, gray to dark green bodies and forms groups. The bodies reach heights of up to 5 centimeters with diameters of 3.5 to 4 centimeters and have a small beet root. The up to 15 ribs are clearly divided into cusps. The up to 15 thorns are whitish gray and darker at their tip and base. They are protruding, needle-like and up to 10 millimeters long.
The fiery red to carmine red flowers have a reddish purple throat. They are up to 4 centimeters long and reach a diameter of 4.5 centimeters. The pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with some fine hair. The stigmas are light green and the fruits brownish to olive green.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Rebutia ritteri is widespread in Bolivia in the departments of Chuquisaca , Potosí and Tarija and in Argentina in the province of Salta at altitudes of 2500 to 3900 meters.
The first description as Lobivia ritteri was published in 1938 by Wilhelm Wessner (1904-1983). Albert Frederik Hendrik Buining and John Donald Donald (1923-1996) placed them in 1963 in the genus Rebutia .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
