The Bad Godesberg city park is the spa park of Bad Godesberg in the heart of the city.

Location and history

The Godesberg city park was built from 1880 in the style of an English landscape garden . The park grew to its present size through acquisitions of former villa gardens. It used to be divided into a public garden on the left and a city garden on the right of the then Gartenstrasse. In 1892 a Kurpark restaurant was built according to plans by the Cologne architect Josef Crones (1848–1934). In 1950 an interallied riding club ("Interallied Riding School)" with a riding hall and a stable building was built in what was then the city garden (Gartenstrasse 6) , which in 1957 were demolished again. The park is right next to the city center. To the north, only separated by Kurfürstenallee, is the Redoutenpark . Both parks together cover an area of 8 hectares. To the south there is the five hectare Rigal'sche Wiese , which is named after the barons of Rigal-Grunwald. World iconWorld icon

To the east of the town hall there is an oval pond with a fountain. The surrounding trees and bushes come from almost every continent on earth. A few meters further on, directly on Koblenzer Straße, a memorial stone commemorates the police superintendent Gerd Höllige who was murdered on July 28, 2002 while on duty. Redoutenpark and Rigal'sche Wiese

The city park goes beyond the Kurfürstenallee into the Redoutenpark. This was laid out from 1820 and was given its current form of an English landscape park in 1856 by the gardener Konrad Wilhelm Nelle (1813–1902) for the new owner of the redoubt, Viktor Wendelstadt.

The Rigal'sche Wiese is not designed as a landscape park, but as a grassy open space. Next to it are the parking spaces of the town hall.

The Kurfürstenbad indoor swimming pool, which has now been closed, is located on Kurfürstenallee.
