The Reformed Church in Fideris in Prättigau is a Protestant - Reformed church under the monument of the canton of Grisons . It was last renovated in 1977.

History and equipment

In the pre-Reformation period in 1461, today's church was rebuilt as a late Gothic building on the fabric of a medieval building that was under the patronage of St. Gallus . The church tower with four single-storey bell windows and onion dome shows the Romanesque style. It was expanded and raised in 1738.

Choir

In the choir , which is covered with reticulated vaults , there are wall paintings from the founding period and a. with the trinitarian motif of the mercy seat . The wall paintings remained untouched in the years of the introduction of the Reformation in Fideris (1525–30). They were only painted over in the years of the Graubünden turmoil , until they were partially covered and restored in 1938. The baptismal font, on which the Lord's Supper is celebrated, also dates from the time the church was founded.

pulpit

The pulpit , on the other hand, dates to the height of the Bündner turmoil in 1628. There are two inscriptions on it:

  • Above: LUCERNA EST PEDIBUS MEIS ET LUMEN SEMITIS MEIS PSAL C XIX V CV ([Your word] is a lamp to my feet and a light [on] my ways. Psalm 119,105).
  • Below: AM I OLD I HAVE NEVER ASSUMED THAT THE HOPE IN GOT IS IN HUNGER COMEN PSAL 37.

organ

The current organ in the southwest of the nave was installed in 1970. The first organ in Fideris Church was an instrument installed in 1808, which was then installed in the gallery, but had to be replaced as early as 1830 due to frequent repairs. On the occasion of the renovation in 1938, the first mechanical organ was used in the church, which was in operation until 1970.

Bells

There are two bells in the church tower. The larger of the two from 1487 has a diameter of 100 cm. It bears the inscription: "O King of Glory come with peace". The smaller bell, cast in 1707, has a diameter of 81 cm. It is inscribed on it: “Not noise, but love can be heard in God's ears” and “To praise God I call the people who are to gather for the church in 1707”. A third and at the same time smallest bell is located in the Rosengarten local history museum in Grüsch and was probably made in the 13th century.

graveyard

The cemetery around the church is characterized by epitaphs from the 17th century.

Church organization

The Evangelical Reformed Regional Church of Graubünden leads Fideris as an independent parish within the Colloquium IX Prättigau . The parish is currently (as of 2016) provided by a parish office with a partial workload of 60%.
