The location of the northeast region within Macedonia

The Northeast region ( Macedonian Североисточен регион Severoistočen region ; Albanian  Rajoni verilindor ) is one of the eight statistical regions of the highest administrative level in the Republic of North Macedonia . The administrative unit is divided into six opštini, which represent the lowest administrative level. The region is located in the northeast of the country and borders Kosovo , Serbia and Bulgaria . Neighboring regions are the Skopje region in the west and the East region in the south .

Regions in North Macedonia do not fulfill any administrative tasks, but are only there for purely statistical purposes. In some cases, however, they form historical regions that are and were economically and culturally linked.
