history

Reichenbach was cleared in the 12th century by monks from the Benedictine monastery in Gengenbach. Tradition tells that a monk by the name of Richo was given the task of clearing the valley in the north of his abbey. This gave rise to the name Richenbach , from which today's Reichenbach became.

It was first mentioned in a document in 1235 AD. In the Middle Ages, mining was carried out in the area around Reichenbach. For a long time the place belonged to Gengenbach, it became independent in the first half of the 19th century (1803).

On January 1, 1975 Reichenbach was incorporated into Gengenbach.
