Reiner Cornelius

Reiner Cornelius (born October 14, 1926 in Irschenhausen ; † July 27, 2020 in Mainhardt ) was a German painter and writer .

Life

He came from the artist family Cornelius, who u. a. also produced the painter Peter von Cornelius and the composer Peter Cornelius . After returning from captivity, he did an internship in a painting business before attending a private art school in Munich - Nymphenburg from 1949 and private lessons with Herbert Rolf Schlegel in 1950/1951 , and then painting at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts from 1952 to 1957 to study. The first group exhibitions were held in Munich while he was still a student. After graduating, he was an art teacher in Bad Reichenhall . In the 1970s he moved to Mainhardt , where he held his own summer exhibitions from 1973 to 1982 and has had his own studio ever since. His work consists mainly of landscape oil paintings, but also portraits and still lifes. Cornelius was politically active in the Free Social Union , on whose Bavarian state list he ran unsuccessfully in the 1969 federal election.

Solo exhibitions with works by Reiner Cornelius have taken place since 1973. His more recent exhibitions include three solo exhibitions in the Johanniterhalle in Schwäbisch Hall in 1988, 1999 and 2003, as well as a solo exhibition in the Hällisch-Franconian Museum in Schwäbisch Hall in 2008.
