Reinhard Dampmann (born April 19,  1937 in Hamburg ) is a former German boxer .

Life

As an amateur boxer, Dampmann was a member of the Hamburg club BC Harburg and made a name for himself as a powerful fighter. He finished his first appearance as a professional boxer with a points win, which he achieved in early October 1962 on a fight evening in Hamburg's Ernst-Merck-Halle . The southpaw's first defeat occurred in April 1964 in a duel with the Luxembourger Ray Philippe.

In January 1967 Dampmann challenged the German middleweight champion Jupp Elze . The duel was played in front of 1200 spectators in the Friedrich-Ebert-Halle in Hamburg-Harburg and was over after 38 seconds. After a right-left combination Elzes Dampmann was badly hit, went to the ground after another right of the Cologne man and was counted. In the same year Dampmann came to another title fight, this time in the super welterweight division. In the Ostseehalle in Kiel he  defeated defending champion Werner Mundt in front of 3,000 spectators . Dampmann put a left hook in the seventh round, which sent Mundt onto the boards and incapacitated them.

The Hamburger had to give up his German championship title after a defeat against Gerhard Piaskowy  (knockout in the eleventh round) in February 1968. The fight was held in the Deutschlandhalle in West Berlin . A year later there was the rematch between Dampmann and Piaskowy, this time in Hamburg. Dampmann lost again prematurely, at the time of the cancellation he was leading on points as in the first duel. With three wins and one draw in the following fights, Dampmann recommended himself for another opportunity for a German championship. At the end of October 1970 he went to Kiel against Hans-Dieter Schwartz  , it was about the middleweight title. The  Dampmann, who belongs to Theo Wittenbrink's boxing stable , lost the fight in the twelfth round. "Hard work, tenacity, toughness, stamina and good will were not enough against the German middleweight champion to knock him off the throne", the Hamburger Abendblatt assessed Dampmann's performance against Schwartz. In the sixth round Dampmann had brought his opponent to the brink of defeat, but Schwartz survived this delicate situation for him. Subsequently, Dampmann did not fight for almost five years, in December 1975 he came back with a victory, following a defeat against the young Frank Wissenbach in April 1976, the man from Hamburg finally retired from professional boxing.
