Reinhard Lebe

Reinhard Lebe (born June 25, 1935 in Berlin ; † June 11, 2014 in Stuttgart ) was a German publisher and publicist with the pseudonym Ubiquandus .

Live studied history, German and theater studies and was on 30 November 1961 at the Faculty of Arts, University of Berlin with a thesis on the Kassel court theater in the first half of the 19th century Dr. phil. PhD. From 1962 Lebe worked as a publishing director and editor and from 1973 to 1995 was chief editor at the Deutsche Verlagsanstalt in Stuttgart. He then worked as a freelance journalist.

Lebe wrote a number of popular and anecdotal story books for a wide audience. So wrote Johannes Paulmann , Lebes book about premodern dynastic marriage politics "should entertain" by telling "countless ... stories" with an eye for "curiosities", and Esther Knorr-Anders judged that his story of Venice combined "sparkling wit ... with tragedy Serious". Lebe's best-known work was “Was Karl the Bald Really Bald ?” , Published for the first time in 1969. In it Lebe explored the background of curious nicknames of premodern rulers. The book has been reprinted many times and over 120,000 copies have been printed. Lebe wrote articles and a column on history puzzles for the popular history journal Damals and reviews of historical non-fiction books for the weekly newspaper Die Zeit .
