Reinhard Pabst (born November 3, 1943 in Posen ) is a German anatomist . He was a university lecturer and rector of the Hannover Medical School (MHH).

Life

The Pope, who grew up in Lüneburg , studied medicine at the Hannover Medical School (MHH) and the University of Glasgow from 1965 to 1970 . In 1970 he received his doctorate . After obtaining his license to practice medicine in 1971, he worked from 1972 to 1976 as a research assistant at the Department of Clinical Physiology at Ulm University. In 1976 he completed his habilitation in clinical physiology and moved to the Hannover Medical School as senior assistant in the Department of Functional and Applied Anatomy, where he continued his scientific career. In 1978, Pope's teaching license was extended to include anatomy . From 1980 to 1992 he was head of the Institute for Topographical Anatomy (C3 professorship) and then head of the Department of Functional and Applied Anatomy at the university (C4 professorship) until his retirement in 2009. From 2009 to 2014 Papst held a Lower Saxony senior research professorship at the Institute for Immune Morphology at the MHH.

Papst held various positions at the Hannover Medical School, for example, he was Vice-Rector for Studies and Teaching (1986–1990) and Research (1999–2003) and Rector (1993–1997) of the university. He was a member of the Presidium of the Medical Faculty Conference as well as a board member (1993–1998) and chairman (1997–1998) of the Anatomical Society . In 2001 he was elected to the Leopoldina . Other honors include the honorary doctorate from the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover and the Anton Waldeyer Prize from the Anatomical Society.

Scientific work

Reinhard Papst has published numerous scientific papers on aspects of the immune system , including the functional anatomy and regeneration of the lymphatic system , the proliferation and migration of lymphocytes and other organ-specific immunological aspects. In addition, his scientific interest was the functional anatomy of the male getital and the spleen and the evaluation of medical teaching.

Together with Reinhard Putz, Papst was editor of the 20th to 22nd edition of the Sobotta Atlas of Human Anatomy.

Pope belonged to the first class of students who began studying at the Hannover Medical School in 1965. In 2020 he presented a history of the university's early years.
