Reinhard Priebe

Reinhard Priebe (born April 25, 1949 in Lübeck ) is a German lawyer and former director of the European Commission .

Life

Reinhard Priebe is a son of the Lübeck lawyer Hans-Joachim Priebe († 1957) and the gynecologist Theresia Priebe, b. Hiebl (1915–2014), who was awarded the commemorative medal of the Society for the Promotion of Charitable Activities in 1987 . Hans-Joachim Priebe is his older brother.

He attended the Johanneum zu Lübeck until his Abitur in 1967 and studied law. After exams and legal clerkship, he became a judge at the Stuttgart Administrative Court in 1977 . In 1978 he was at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg to Dr. jur. PhD. From 1979 to 1983 he was a research assistant at the Federal Constitutional Court . From 1984 Priebe worked for the European Commission, until 2001 in the Directorate General for Agriculture . As Director of the EU Foreign Affairs Commission, he was responsible for the Western Balkans from 2001 to 2006 . From 2006 to 2008, Priebe was director of the Directorate General for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, responsible for the conservation of fishery stocks. From 2008 to 2009 he was Director of the Atlantic, Remote Areas and Arctic Division in the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. In 2010 he was temporarily Director Security in the Directorate General for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship and from July 2010 Director Internal Security in the newly created Directorate General Home Affairs.

After he retired, the European Commission commissioned him to head a commission of inquiry into the events in Macedonia . He presented the report on June 8, 2015.
