Reinhard Putz (born August 5, 1942 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian-German anatomist and university professor.

Life

Reinhard Putz attended the teacher training college and in 1961 acquired the school-leaving certificate for teaching at elementary schools. After military service, he studied medicine at the University of Innsbruck . In 1968 he received his doctorate and in 1979 his habilitation at the University of Innsbruck. After visiting professorships at the Universities of Freiburg and Munich, he took over the Chair of Anatomy at the University of Freiburg in 1982 . In 1989 he followed a call to the University of Munich as a director of the anatomical institute. From 2003 to 2010 Putz was Vice-Rector or first Vice-President of the LMU.

Putz's areas of scientific interest concern the musculoskeletal system, in particular the form-function problem of the joints. A special focus was on the evolution of the spine and its adaptation to the conditions of the upright gait. He showed great interest in clinical anatomy and university didactics.

Putz was significantly involved in the Munich-Harvard Alliance, from which medical studies at LMU were fundamentally reformed. The most important concern for him was the establishment and continuous development of a professionally organized lecturer training (Frauenchiemsee). From his position on the Presidium of the German Medical Faculty Conference, Putz was involved with a group of colleagues from other medical faculties in establishing the extra-occupational master's degree "Master of Medical Education", which was finally established at Heidelberg University. From August 2009 Putz was a member of the University Council of the Medical University of Innsbruck and from March 20, 2013 its chairman.
