Reinhard Weinstabl

Reinhard Weinstabl (born April 5, 1958 in Waidhofen / Ybbs ) is an Austrian trauma surgeon and sports traumatologist specializing in sports injuries and minimally invasive surgery. He gained public notoriety through the treatment of many prominent patients from sports, business and politics.

Career

After studying medicine at the University of Vienna (1977–1983) with a doctorate in 1983, Reinhard Weinstabl taught as a contract assistant at the Anatomical Institute of the University of Vienna with Wilhelm Firbas. In 1984, he worked for six months as a regular doctor at Lorenz Böhler's trauma hospital in Vienna . From 1984 to 1990 he completed his training as a specialist in trauma surgery at the 1st University Clinic for Trauma Surgery in Vienna.

In 1993 , Reinhard Weinstabl completed his habilitation as a university lecturer in trauma surgery on the subject of tension in the shoulder joint capsule during three-dimensional movement in the glenohumeral joint . The following year he acquired the additional subject sports traumatology .

Weinstabl has had a private practice for trauma surgery and sports traumatology since 1993. In 2010 Weinstabl expanded his practice to include the competence center for joint surgery, where he worked together with Richard Maier, Paul Stampfl and Magdalena Materzok-Weinstabl.

His operation on the German tennis player Steffi Graf went through the world media in 1997. Among other things, Weinstabl is also the medical officer of many participants in the ORF television show " Dancing Stars ".

In 2008, the Federal President of the Republic of Austria , Heinz Fischer , gave him the professional title “Ao. University Professor ”and in 2015 he was awarded the great honor for science and art of the first order, also by Federal President Heinz Fischer.

Specialties

His specialties include the treatment of sports injuries and injuries to the musculoskeletal system. He runs centers for nuclear magnetic resonance therapy (MBST), Repuls deep beam treatment and physical therapy.

Reinhard Weinstabl has published over 250 scientific publications and specialist articles on the topics of trauma surgery, sports traumatology and traumatological radiology. He has published in the New England Journal of Medicine , World Journal of Surgery , Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery and Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research, among others .

Sports medicine functions

Reinhard Weinstabl has been the tournament doctor for the Erste Bank Open tennis tournament since 1998 . In addition, he is an association doctor for the Austrian Tennis Association (ÖTV) and the Vienna Tennis Association (WTV). For many years Weinstabl acted as team doctor for the Austrian volleyball team Vienna HotVolleys . He is also the medical officer of the Thomas Haasmann Judo Academy (Galaxy Judotigers).

He is a member of the Austrian Society for Trauma Surgery , the Anatomical Society , the Vienna Society of Doctors, the Austrian Society for Emergency Medicine, the Austrian Society for Sports Medicine, the International Society of Surgeons, the Society for Orthopedic-Traumatological Sports Medicine (GOTS) and the Society of Sports Medicine and Science in Tennis.

Weinstabl is also an Associate member of the ISSEC, a Founding and Ordinary member of the International Association of Trauma and Surgical Intensive Care (IATSIC) and a member of the Society for Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery (AGA).
