history

The club was founded in 1953 as SK Görz 33 and changed to Limex in 1969 and to Club A. Tyrolia Vienna in 1972. Under this name, the Viennese achieved their first championship and cup successes in the 1980s. 1992 began the most successful era of the club, which with the exception of 1995 to 2004 won all championship titles and most cup wins. From 2005, two rivals, Hypo Tirol Innsbruck and SK Posojilnica Aich / Dob , matured and the Viennese won the championship title three times in the last few years, in 2004, 2007 and 2008.

The club first took part in the CEV Volleyball Champions Cup in the 1981/82 season as Tyrolia Vienna, but the Viennese had no chance against Honved Budapest in the qualifying round. One season later, Sokol Vienna , the Austrian series winner at the time, qualified for the cup. With victories over Speedwell Rucanor Bristel , Vooronde Progona GVK , the club reached a quarter-finals in this competition for the first time in the 1983/84 season , in which the Viennese lost to AS Cannes . After the qualifying round ended in the 1998/99 season, the 1999/2000 season celebrated what was probably the greatest success of an Austrian volleyball club at the time. After reaching 2nd place in the group phase with opponents such as Noliko Maaseik , AZS Częstochowa , Levski Siconco Sofia , Izumrud Ekaterinburg , SC Espinho , VSC Fatra Zlín and Netas Istanbul , the hot volleys moved into the final four, in the Bayernwerk in the semi-finals Sisley Treviso clearly and narrowly defeated against Noliko Maaseik in the game for 3rd place. Due to these good results of the hot volleys, two Austrian clubs should play in this cup, which has been renamed the Volleyball Champions League since 1996/97, from the 2004/05 season .

In the following seasons, the volleyball club was eliminated either in the group phase or in the play-off (sixth finals), including in the 2005/06 season , in which the Viennese started as runner-up in the Champions League for the first time behind Hypo Tirol Innsbruck . The Viennese last reached the play-offs over the group stage with opponents such as Sisley Treviso , Noliko Maaseik , AS Cannes and the German representative evivo Düren , in which they failed against Iraklis Thessaloniki .

At the beginning of the 2008/09 season , the Turkish Erol User , a supposedly financially strong financier, filled the presidential post. However, the millions of financial support promised for the aon hotVolleys never reached the association's account. User, who claimed to hold 63% of the shares in the top Turkish football club Fenerbahçe Istanbul , turned out to be a con man in the course of the season before he was suspended from his position by manager Peter Kleinmann . It was later revealed that the involvement in Fenerbahçe Istanbul was evidenced by possibly forged documents, which resulted in user charges of fraud. From a sporting point of view, the club finished 4th in the Volleyball Champions League and had to compete in the Challenge Round of the CEV Cup, in which the club lost to Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo . Due to the strong competition from Tyrol, the Viennese only qualified for the CEV Cup or the European Challenge Cup in the following years.
