Reinhold Kubik

Reinhold Kubik (born March 22, 1942 in Vienna ) is an Austrian musicologist, pianist and conductor .

Kubik completed his Matura in Vienna in 1960 at the Humanist Gymnasium in Leopoldstadt. He studied piano, composition and conducting with Hans Swarowsky at the Vienna University of Music . He received his doctorate in 1980 at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg .

During his professional career Kubik worked from 1966 to 1974 as Kapellmeister at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf and Duisburg as well as in many other cities in Europe such as Lille , Barcelona and Ljubljana . He was also a pianist, composer, choir director and lecturer (since 1980). Kubik was chief editor of the Hänssler publishing house in Stuttgart. He has taught at the Vienna University of Music , in Nuremberg, Karlsruhe and London and in 1987 became professor at Yale University, USA.

From 1993 to 2012 he was editor-in-chief of the Complete Critical Edition of the Works of Gustav Mahler and Vice-President of the International Gustav Mahler Society .
