Reinhold Wilhelm Eduard Weber (born July 6, 1813 in Rheinsberg (Neuruppin district), † December 3, 1894 in Breslau ) was royal Prussian major general and most recently the commander of the pioneer battalion No. 2.

His parents were Dr. med. Johann Dietrich Ferdinand Weber (* June 8, 1882 - January 15, 1847) and his wife Wilhelmine Dorothea Neumann (* February 19, 1782 - January 25, 1861). His father was first a regimental doctor in the 6th Infantry Regiment and then a general practitioner in Rheinsberg.

Life

He received his education first at the Athenee royal in Luxembourg and then at the Protestant grammar school in Glogau. After graduating, on October 1, 1830, he went to the 5th pioneer department as a pioneer. There he was posted to the United Artillery and Engineering School from October 1, 1831 to July 31, 1834 . During this time he was appointed portepeef ensign on December 26, 1831, and on September 10, 1833, he was aggregated as a second lieutenant in the 2nd engineer inspection .

After his return he came back to the 5th engineer department on October 1, 1834, and was assigned to the 2nd engineer inspection on October 2, 1835. During a severe flood in 1838 he was assigned to Wilkau for rescue work . For the courage he showed there in saving human lives, he was awarded the 4th grade Red Eagle Order on July 22, 1838 . From 1838 to 1839 he was then briefly a teacher at the division school of the 9th Division , but on July 1, 1839 he came to fortification work in the fortress Schweidnitz . After the great fire in Hamburg in 1842 he was assigned to rescue and clean-up work. For this he received the Hamburg Medal of Thanks. He was then sent to Neisse on February 23, 1844 for fortification work. In 1845 he received a commendation from the king and on December 30, 1845, he was promoted to Premier-Lieutenant. On August 13, 1846, he came to the 3rd Engineering Inspectorate as an adjutant, and on March 6, 1859, to the pioneering department. He was promoted to captain on November 8, 1849 and at the same time transferred to fortification services at Torgau Fortress . On October 1, 1853, he joined the 3rd Pioneer Division as commander of the 2nd Company. From there he came on January 23, 1855 as an engineer officer from the square to the Cosel Fortress and on January 23, 1858 promoted to Major in the same position in the Magdeburg Fortress. During the Crimean War , he was sent to Sevastopol in 1859 to examine the siege work there. On his return he was appointed commander of the Engineer Battalion No. 2 on November 6, 1861 and promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 17, 1863.

During the German War he was in the General Command of the 1st Army Corps and took part in the battles near Trautenau and Tobitschau, the Battle of Königgrätz and the advance against Prerau and the enclosure of Olomouc. For this he received the Order of the Red Eagle 3rd Class with Swords on September 20, 1866 .

He was promoted to major general on July 26, 1870 and took part in the Franco-Prussian War as such . During the campaign, in addition to his position as inspector of the 3rd fortress inspection, he was also inspector of the 2nd pioneer inspection. After the war, he was put up for retirement on August 15, 1871 , and on August 29, 1871 he was also awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves and swords on the ring . He died on December 3, 1894 in Breslau.

Weber married Sophie Amalie Meißner on November 7, 1842 in Magdeburg (* October 6, 1817 - June 30, 1889), a daughter of the court pharmacist Gottfried Ferdinand Kasper Meißner .
