Travel pavilion

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The travel pavilion was an annual event for sustainable travel from 1991 to 2010 , which originated as a trade fair in Hanover . In 2008 it took place in Stuttgart and in 2009 in Munich . In the anniversary year 2010 it was converted into an international specialist congress , the venue of which was the Federal Press Office in Berlin .

Development history

The travel pavilion was first held in Hanover in 1991 in the Raschplatz pavilion. At that time it attracted 38 exhibitors and 1,800 visitors. Over the years, the local “marketplace for other travel” has developed into an internationally unique platform for sustainable travel. Against this background, in 2002 it was the kick-off event of the international ecotourism year . In the following year, 2003, the company moved to the Hanover exhibition center and started cooperating with a classic leisure fair , which was designed to appeal to a wider audience. This goal was achieved and the number of exhibitors grew steadily. In 2007 about 300 exhibitors from 30 countries were represented at the fair, which delighted over 25,000 visitors. In order to bring sustainable travel closer to end consumers in southern Germany, the travel pavilion moved to CMT in Stuttgart in 2008 and to f.re.e in Munich in 2009 . In 2010, on the occasion of its 20th anniversary, it was realized as an international specialist congress in Berlin, for the last time. The travel pavilion had fulfilled its historic role: Sustainable tourism has found its way into traditional travel fairs, travel agencies and the virtual travel market.

Exhibition and congress concept

The fair was essentially conceived as a public fair, which was also reflected in the offer (musical interludes, cabaret and childcare). It offered tour operators , holiday regions, large protected areas, universities and non-governmental organizations a platform to introduce themselves to potential customers and interested parties. The accompanying program comprised specialist events, travel reports, shows and discussions. One focus was on a sustainable trade fair design: the exhibitors had to submit a sustainability declaration. The organizers also endeavored to run the fair in an environmentally friendly manner. As a specialist congress, the travel pavilion was primarily aimed at tourism professionals, tour operators, representatives of non-governmental organizations of all kinds, teachers, politicians, media representatives and interested laypeople.
