history
After the founding of the single-track, second-rate K League 2 for the 2013 season, relegation games were played for the first time on December 4 and 7, 2013 to stay in the top South Korean division. Participants were the master of the K League Challenge 2013 , Sangju Sangmu FC and the 12th of the K League Classic 2013 , Gangwon FC . The second division was able to prevail with 4: 2 and so rise. For the 2014 season , the K League 2 relegation was preceded by two play-off rounds in which the participant of the relegation was determined.
In the first round, the third of the K League 2 meets the fourth. The winner will play against the runner-up in the second round. In the two rounds, if there is a tie after regular time, no extra time will be played and no penalty shoot- out will be carried out. The team with the better ranking in the league will be declared the winner in such a case. The winner of the second round qualifies for the relegation games in which the second division team has home rights in the first leg. There are no relegation games for the first placed in K League 2 and the last placed in K League 1, they are promoted or relegated directly.
In the six relegations held so far (as of 2018), the second division won four times. Clubs with more than one participation are Sangju Sangmu FC (2 wins), Gangwon FC (1 win and 1 loss) and Busan IPark (3 losses).
