Career
society
Van der Schaaf began his career in the youth department of VV Omlandia and later played for the juniors of TOP Oss . In 1997, the first division club Vitesse Arnheim signed him, where he was able to gain his first international experience in the UEFA Cup . In January 2000 he was loaned to the league competitor Fortuna Sittard , trained by Bert van Marwijk , for half a year . After the loan period he returned to Arnhem and played there for two years, but was only able to establish himself as a regular player in the 2001/02 season.
In the summer of 2002 van der Schaaf moved to PSV Eindhoven , which van Marwijk had meanwhile trained. With the club he won two Dutch championships, won the Johan Cruyff Schaal in 2004 and took part in the UEFA Champions League . As a regular player there could not prevail and therefore moved back to Arnhem in 2005 , where he became a top performer and thus recommended in 2008 for a move to England to the second division club Burnley FC . With the English, he signed a three-year contract, but was only used in the first game of the 2008/09 season. Van der Schaaf then sat on the bench four times before being loaned to the Danish first division club Brøndby IF for the rest of the season in spring 2009 . After his return, he was no longer considered in Burnley, so that he was loaned out again to Brøndby in the spring of 2010 for the one and a half year remaining term of his contract. After the loan period expired, van der Schaaf joined the Danish second division side Randers FC , with whom he achieved promotion to the Superliga in the following season .
National team
Remco van der Schaaf played a total of seven games for the Dutch U-21 national team during his Arnhem years from 1999 to 2001, together with future senior national players such as Dirk Kuyt , Rafael van der Vaart and John Heitinga .
