John Gijsbert Alan "Johnny" Heitinga (born November 15, 1983 in Alphen aan den Rijn ) is a former Dutch football player .

Career

society

Johnny Heitinga's ancestors come from Indonesia ; his grandfather and father, who was born in Djakarta in 1957 , moved to the land of the former colonial power in 1959. As a child, Heitinga began playing football at the ARC in his hometown of Alphen. When he was seven years old, his mother gave him a trial training session at Ajax Amsterdam , which resulted in Ajax accepting him in their youth education.

He started out as a right back in Amsterdam but occasionally played in defensive midfield . From the youth department he joined the professional squad for the 2001/02 season . When he made his debut in the Eredivisie on August 26, 2001, he had already switched to central defense. In the game against Feyenoord Rotterdam he came on in the 69th minute for Schota Arweladse . A few days later, on September 20, 2001, he made his first international appearance in the UEFA Cup against Apollon Limassol . In the team around André Bergdølmo , Ferdi Vierklau and Rafael van der Vaart , he was quickly one of the regulars and had 13 missions by the winter break. After two more appearances in the second half of the season, an injury threw him back and he could not make any further contribution to winning the doubles . He was also incapacitated in the following season ; only from October 2003 he played again regularly in Ajaxen's first team. On November 9, 2003, he scored his first league goal in the game at ADO Den Haag : On presentation by Wesley Sneijder, he executed a header to make it 1-1 in the 4-1 victory for Amsterdam. Later in the game he was sent off with a yellow-red card . In this season , in which he was in 26 league games in central defense and again as a right defender, he won the championship again with the Ajacids and was a national team player . In 2006 and 2007 he was again a cup winner with the team .

During his seventh professional season at Ajax, at the end of which he was voted Eredivisie Player of the Year, it was announced in March 2008 that the Spanish first division club Atlético Madrid Heitinga committed to the 2008/09 season for the fixed transfer fee of ten million euros. At Atlético he played one season and scored three goals in 32 games - including 27 in the Primera División . But Madrid was only a transit station in the Premier League : On September 1, 2009, Heitinga moved to Everton . Heitinga signed a five-year contract in Liverpool. In the UEFA Europa League 2009/10 Everton could not use the Dutchman because he had already played for Atlético in the Champions League qualification . For the English, he made 33 games in the 2009/10 season, 29 of which with two goals in the league.

On January 31, 2014, Heitinga moved to Fulham , where he signed a contract until the end of the season. For the 2014/15 season he moved to Hertha BSC . After a year in Berlin, he returned to Ajax Amsterdam for the 2015/16 season and ended his active career on February 1, 2016. He then worked first as a coach of the U-11 team, then as assistant coach of the second team, Jong AFC Ajax .

National team

He made his debut for the Dutch national team on February 18, 2004 as a right defender in the 1-0 win for Elftal at the Amsterdam Arena against the United States . This made him the 99th Ajax player who had been appointed to the Nederlands Elftal . Two months and two games later he was able to achieve his first international goal; in the 4-0 win against Greece he scored the third goal. At the 2004 European Championship he was in the starting line-up in the first two games, but had to watch the third game after a yellow-red card against the Czech Republic . He also played three games at the 2006 World Cup and the 2008 European Championship . For the 2010 World Cup , he was one of the more experienced players in the squad of Bondscoach Bert van Marwijk with 51 appearances . He was used in six games and saw the yellow-red card in the final against Spain in the 109th minute.
