René Séjourné

René Pierre Louis Joseph Séjourné (born May 20, 1930 in Aviré , Maine-et-Loire , France ; † June 1, 2018 in Angers ) was a French clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Saint-Flour .

Life

René Séjourné, from a family with six children from a village near Segré , entered the seminary of the diocese of Angers . After studying philosophy and theology as well as studying canon law in Rome, he received on October 7, 1955 from Pope Pius XII. even ordination . Initially he was a school chaplain in Angers, but returned to the Vatican State Secretariat in Rome in 1967 and was responsible for the Francophone department. Among other things, he wrote the speeches and letters of Pope Paul VI. and John Paul II in French.

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Labicum on June 17, 1987, as well as rector of the National Church of San Luigi dei Francesi, and ordained him episcopal on September 5 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Archbishop Eduardo Martínez Somalo and Jean Orchampt , Bishop of Angers .

On September 13, 1990, John Paul II called him Bishop of Saint-Flour . On January 16, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age.
