Renée Poetschka

Renée Poetschka ( Renée Elise Poetschka ; born May 1, 1971 in Dampier ) is a former Australian sprinter who specialized in the 400-meter run .

Internationally, she made her first appearance when she won the title at the Junior World Athletics Championships in Plovdiv in 1990 with the Australian 4 x 400 meter relay . In 1991 she reached the semi-finals at the World Championships in Tokyo in the 400-meter run and finished fourth at the Universiade in Sheffield over the same distance.

At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona she reached the semi-finals over 400 m and was seventh with the relay. At the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Toronto in 1993 and at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, she finished fifth in the 400-meter run.

Poetschka celebrated the greatest success of her career at the 1995 World Athletics Championships in Gothenburg. There she won the bronze medal behind the teams of the United States (3: 22.39 min) and in the 4 x 400 meter relay together with Lee Naylor , Melinda Gainsford-Taylor and Cathy Freeman in 3: 25.88 min Russia (3: 23.98 min).

At the end of her international career, she reached the semi-finals again at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta over 400 m. In the season, however, she was eliminated in the preliminary round.

Overall, she was five times Australian champion, four times in the 400-meter run (1991, 1993, 1994, 1996) and once in the 400-meter hurdles (1993).

Renée Poetschka is 1.74 m tall and weighed 56 kg during her active time. Her younger sister Lauren Poetschka is a former hurdler and was also an Olympic participant.
