Reso Kiknadze

Reso Kiknadze ( Georgian რეზო კიკნაძე Reso Kiknadze , English transcription: Rezo Kiknadze ; born September 29, 1960 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian composer and saxophonist.

Life

From 1977 to 1981 Kiknadze studied classical philology at the University of Tbilisi . In the meantime, he was also interested in jazz , played the saxophone in the big band of the Georgian Radio , and later in the quintet of the Tbilisi Conservatory. This was followed by appearances at jazz festivals in Tbilisi, Tallinn and Vilnius , concerts and radio recordings.

After graduating in 1982, he took composition lessons from Michail Shugliaschwili. In 1986 he began to study composition at the Conservatory in Tbilisi. Besides, he was interested in traditional Georgian music and sang in the choir of Anchiskhati Cathedral to Tbilisi.

In 1991 he came to Germany and studied composition with Friedhelm Döhl at the Musikhochschule Lübeck , from 1993 also electroacoustic music with Dirk Reith and worked as an assistant in the electronic studio of the Musikhochschule. From 1992 to 1994 he was a member of the improvisation ensemble Nuova Sonanza ; at the same time he worked with the Butoh -Tanztheater tatoeba - theater dance grotesque together in Berlin.

In 1998 he received his composition diploma at the Lübeck University of Music. From 2000 he worked with the contemporary dance theater TanzOrt Nord . In 2001 he finished his concert exam for composition.

He held teaching positions at the electronic studio at the Lübeck University of Music and at the Lübeck Music School (saxophone and improvisation). He had appearances as a saxophonist in various formations for jazz, new music , free improvisation etc. and various joint projects with artists from other fields (dance, visual arts, poets, drama etc.). In 2002 he founded the Resolution Group , a free electro-acoustic improvisation ensemble. From 2008 he taught electro-acoustic music at the Ilia University in Tbilisi .

Since 2012 he has been the rector of the Tbilisi Conservatory . The jazz musician Giorgi Kiknadze is his son.
