The Chrysler Fevre Argentina SAIC is on 29. November 1965 , was established automakers with headquarters in Buenos Aires , Argentina .
Company history
In 1910 opened Julio Fevre with Julio Fevre y Cia an importer of vehicles of French brands Ariès , Berliet , Delage , Mors . Six years later, in 1916, an exclusive contract was signed with Dodge Brothers .
The first model was the Dodge Sedán , which was replaced by the new Dodge Sedán the following year . The third generation of the Dodge Sedán came onto the market in 1922 , followed by the fourth in 1926. The model range was expanded in 1927 with the introduction of the new models Dodge Doble Pheaton Standard , Dodge Doble Pheaton Especial , Dodge Voiturette Sport , Dodge Sedán Especial , Dodge Sedán de Lujo , Dodge Sedán Señor , Dodge Cupé Especial and Dodge Cabriolet Señor .
In December of the same year, Chrysler presented itself for the first time at the X Salón del Automóvil . In order to enable the distribution of its vehicles, Chrysler had created the subsidiary Resta Hermanos . The models Chrysler 72 , Chrysler 8 cilindros , Chrysler Imperial 80 and Chrysler Gran 62 were available .
On December 1, 1928, Chrysler finally opened the Palacio Chrysler administration facility . The Estadio Olympus , a circular test track, was built within the building complex . Car races were held there, among other things. There was space for up to 3,000 spectators on a 1730 meter long grandstand.
After the businessman Diego Basset joined Julio Fevre y Cía, the company name was changed to Fevre y Basset Limitada SAIC . In 1931, the company was finally bought up by Resta Hermanos, making the company part of the Chrysler Group. Local assembly of vehicles started in 1932. Two years later, the company even started its own production of the vehicles, which turned out to be an advantage over the other automobile manufacturers , especially during the Second World War . For their part, many competitors were dependent on the delivery of kits. As a result, the parts deliveries could no longer be made, if not even completely discontinued, as many manufacturers from the United States had to adapt their products to the needs of the United States Army and Navy . The production of civil vehicles was therefore no longer possible or only possible to a limited extent. Despite the market advantage, the number of orders gradually decreased. As a result, production was temporarily interrupted and even stopped entirely several years later.
Not until 1950, after two years of construction, was a new plant opened. The site, located in the city of San Justo , covered an area of 38 hectares. Due to the restrictions on the import of raw materials, the production of the Dodge DeSoto was inhibited for five years. The successor from 1955 was the new Dodge DeSoto , followed by the Dodge D series in 1960. At the same time, from 1952 there was the civilian version of the Dodge M37, which was actually developed for military purposes .
From 1957, assembly orders were even made for external companies. Medium -weight trucks of the Krupp brand as well as the Volkswagen Escarabajo were built among them . The assembly of Type 1 was discontinued in 1987.
From 1962 on, passenger cars were finally built again under their own brand names. The starting signal for this was given by the Chrysler Valiant V200 . The Chrysler Valiant II replaced it the following year . And in 1965 the Chrysler Valiant III Standard / Coronado / GT took over. In 1967, the Chrysler Valiant IV was the last generation to appear. In 1968 the model line was divided into three model names. From now on, welcomed the models offered Dodge Coronado Valiant , Dodge Coronado Exelente , Dodge Polara , Dodge Polara GTX and Dodge Polara R / T .
In November 1965, the Resta Hermanos and Fevre y Basset Limitada companies were legally merged. With this merger, Chrysler Fevre Argentina SAIC was created
After a fundamental revision of the model range in 1971, only the Dodge 1500 and Dodge 1800 were available in addition to the D series . After the plant was sold to Volkswagen in 1980 , production of the D series and the 1800 were discontinued without replacement. Only the 1500 was built as a Dodge for another year and changed into a VW model with a facelift.
It wasn't until 1996 that Chrysler returned to the Argentine market. The new company is called Chrysler Argentina SRL
