With Chrysler Argentina SRL , Chrysler returned to the Argentine market in 1996 after a fifteen year absence . Chrysler invested a capital of 170 million US dollars for the return . The company's headquarters are in Puerto Madero , a district of Buenos Aires .

In the newly established plant near Ferreyra ( Córdoba ), the Jeep Cherokee Premium was assembled together with the structurally identical but better equipped Jeep Grand Cherokee . The manufacturer used next to the world's brand code 1J8 the factory code Y . The vehicle parts used came from the production of the Kenosha 2 plant . After the merger between Daimler AG and Chrysler Corporation, DaimlerChrysler Argentina SA was established as the successor company towards the end of 1997 . In 2001 the new generation of the Cherokee was finally launched. After assembly of the Jeep Wrangler TJ was discontinued in the United States, the factory took over the assembly line and continued to build the model unchanged.

When Chrysler and Daimler went their separate ways again, the renaming to the old company name took place in January 2008. The assembly plant had to be closed for financial reasons. The assembly lines were relocated to Brazil.

Chrysler wanted to build on the previous success story of Chrysler Fevre Argentina SAIC , which was acquired by Volkswagen , with the Chrysler Neon and the Chrysler Caravan in particular . In addition, with the Chrysler Stratus as well as the Chrysler Vision , models were offered for better-off customers.

Dodge presented itself with the Dodge Dakota . In the following year the new generation of the Dakota appeared. When production of the Vision was stopped in 1997, it was replaced by the Chrysler 300M . From 2001 the Chrysler Sebring and the new Chrysler PT Cruiser should ensure high sales figures. Due to a large number of inquiries, the Jeep brand has now also become active on the Argentine market with its Jeep Wrangler .

The Chrysler 300C assembled by Magna Steyr was to become another long-running favorite from 2004 . In addition, the Chrysler Pacifica, like the Chrysler Crossfire produced by Karmann in Germany, only occupied niche positions. The latter was not a permanent part of the model range, but had to cope with a few intermittent interruptions, which is why it is regarded as exotic on the Argentine market together with the Pacifica. In 2006 it wasn't even offered. But Dodge tried to open up new groups of buyers with the Dodge Nitro assembled in Venezuela . But contrary to expectations, the new model turned out to be a flop, which is why almost all units were exported to other Latin American countries or even to the USA. The Dodge Journey has been available for this purpose since 2008 . Also in 2006, the Dakota was replaced by the Dodge Ram .

Chrysler Town & Country has been the successor to the caravan since 2008 . The Jeep Compass was also launched, followed by the Jeep Patriot in 2010.
