The Chrysler Canada Inc. is the Canadian subsidiary of the car manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles . It was founded in 1925 as the Chrysler Corporation of Canada and took over the Maxwell Chalmers plant in Windsor, Ontario , where Chrysler models had been built the year before. First the company was called Chrysler Canada, Inc. , then DaimlerChrysler Canada, Inc. after Daimler and Chrysler had merged. In August 2007, the company was renamed Chrysler Canada, Inc. again when Cerberus Capital Management acquired 80% of the shares in parent company Chrysler LLC .
Chrysler Canada has three plants in Canada and in 2002 manufactured a total of 535,878 cars and trucks. In 2007 the company sold 232,688 vehicles in the Canadian market. In 2012, Chrysler Canada was number 2 in sales statistics, just ahead of General Motors of Canada . The first was the Ford Motor Company of Canada with 16.5% market share.
Since Windsor is the location of Chrysler's Canadian headquarters and the van plant, and Oshawa is the location of General Motors headquarters and two plants, there is a friendly rivalry between the two cities for the position of Canada's auto capital.
Current makes and models
Chrysler Canada currently offers six brands: Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Ram, SRT, and Chrysler. Dodge represents the mid- range car and sporty models, Jeep serves the off-road segment and Chrysler is the premium brand. What is remarkable about the Canadian model range is that all models known from the USA are offered, but sometimes under different brand names . In the early 2000s, for example, B. Dodge is not established as a car brand, but exclusively as a manufacturer of commercial vehicles and vans in Canada. After Plymouth ceased to exist, all car models were marketed as Chrysler. In Canada, for example, there was a Chrysler Neon, a Chrysler Intrepid etc., vehicles that were marketed exclusively as Dodge in the USA. This division was revised in 2003 and since then the same models have been offered in Canada as in the USA.
Chrysler
The models start at CAD 20,000 and end at approximately CAD 60,000 for a fully equipped 300 C SRT-8. The range includes cars, SUVs, crossovers and vans. Canada is one of the few markets where Chrysler is still considered a premium brand. The Chrysler 300 C is currently the best-selling premium vehicle in Canada.
- Chrysler 200 - mid-size sedan
- Chrysler 300 - upper middle class
- Chrysler Town and Country minivan
Dodge
Dodge serves the mid-range segment of the Canadian market. The range starts at Station Wagons of the lower middle class and ends with the SUV Durango . The prices are around CAD 15,000 to CAD 55,000. In the past few decades, Dodge has not only been seen as a mid-range brand, but also as a brand for high-performance vehicles, especially for men. Names like Charger, Avenger and Nitro cemented this image, as did the Viper sports car. These models are complemented by the Challenger , another sports car on the LX platform of the Magnum, Charger and 300. The Journey is also introduced, which shares the platform with Avenger, Caliber, Compass, Patriot and Sebring.
- Dodge Dart - mid-range sedan
- Dodge Journey - Crossover SUV
- Dodge Challenger - sports coupe
- Dodge Charger - upper middle class sedan
- Dodge Durango - large SUV
- Dodge Grand Caravan - Van
Fiat
Only various Fiat 500 variants are offered under the Fiat brand.
jeep
Jeep is Chrysler Canada's off-road brand. Until 2007 all models were based on commercial vehicle chassis and the range was limited to four models. The Patriot is currently the cheapest SUV in Canada.
- Jeep Renegade - compact class SUV
- Jeep Patriot - lower middle class SUV
- Jeep Compass - lower middle class SUV
- Jeep Wrangler - off-road vehicle
- Jeep Cherokee - lower middle class SUV
- Jeep Grand Cherokee - mid-size SUV
R.A.M
- Ram Cargo Van - Transporter
- Ram ProMaster - Transporter
- Ram ProMaster City - compact transporter
- Ram Truck - Pickup
SRT
