Radreng Rinpoche is the title of an important Trülku - line the Gelug -School of Tibetan Buddhism . The name "Radreng Rinpoche " refers to the Radreng Monastery founded by Drom Tönpa in central Tibet in 1056/1057 , the traditional ancestral seat of the Radreng Rinpoches.
history
The 1st Radreng Rinpoche Ngawang Chogden became abbot of Gyumi in 1719 ( Tib . : rgyud smad ). In 1728 he was appointed Yongdzin (Tib .: yongs' dzin ; tutor) of the 7th Dalai Lama , and in 1739 he was elected the 54th Ganden Thripa . He held the office of Ganden Thripa until 1746.
The 2nd Radreng Rinpoche was recognized as a Trülku of Ngawang Chogden in 1761. In 1765 he became the throne holder of the Radreng monastery. In 1780 he received full ordination from the 6th Penchen Lama Lobsang Pelden Yeshe . In 1770 he received the honorary title Archimen Nomihan from the Chinese Emperor Qianlong .
After the early death of the 11th Dalai Lama , the 3rd Radreng Rinpoche acted as interim regent in Tibet . He gave monastic vows to the young 12th Dalai Lama .
The 5th Radreng Rinpoche Jampel Yeshe Gyeltshen was recognized by the 13th Dalai Lama . Between 1934 and 1941 he was the "Regent of Tibet". In 1935 he played a key role in finding the 14th Dalai Lama , and later led his enthronement ceremony. His successor was the 3rd Tagdrag Trülku Ngawang Sungrab Thutob (1874-1952). Jampel Yeshe Gyeltshen was arrested in 1947 and died in the same year of poison in the prison under the Potala Palace in Lhasa. Radreng Monastery was sacked by Tibetan troops. The events in this connection, also known as "Radreng- intrigue " ( reting Conspiracy are known) have nearly led to civil war in Tibet.
After 1947
After the death of the 5th Radreng Rinpoche, Tendzin Jigme Thutob Wangchug was recognized by the Tibetan government as the 6th Radreng Rinpoche. Tendzin Jigme Thutob Wangchug remained in Tibet after the flight of the 14th Dalai Lama in 1959 and died in 1997. In 2000, after the flight of Orgyen Thrinle Dorje to India, the Chinese government announced the discovery of a 7th Radreng Rinpoche.
Another person who claims the title of 6th Radreng Rinpoche objects that the Tibetan government wanted to suppress the line of Radreng Rinpoche after the death of the 5th Radreng Rinpoche and appointed an illegitimate candidate as the 6th Radreng Rinpoche.
