Amaru Reto Schenkel (born April 28, 1988 in Togo ) is a Swiss athlete specializing in the sprint disciplines of 100 and 200 meters. He is a member of the 4 x 100 meter relay , which finished fourth at the 2010 European Championships in Barcelona and holds the current Swiss record with a time of 38.62 s.

Life

Schenkel came to Switzerland from Togo as an adopted child at the age of three . He grew up in Fehraltorf , in the canton of Zurich . At the age of twelve he started athletics . His talent for the sprinter discipline quickly became apparent. In 2003 he won his first title over 80 meters at the Swiss Championships for young athletes. In 2005 he won the silver medal in the 200-meter run at the European Summer Youth Olympic Festival . In 2006 Schenkel managed to break the 36-year-old Swiss junior record with a time of 10.45 s over 100 meters and thus also reached the limit for participation in the Junior World Championships in Beijing . In the same year, Schenkel and Rolf Fongué were also included in the World Class Potentials funding project of the Swiss Athletics Association .

Schenkel was able to achieve the next successes with the Swiss 4 x 100 meter relay, which broke the Swiss record for the first time in 2009. In 2010 he was able to win a Swiss championship title among the active players for the first time, he was first in the 200-meter run. In 2011, he set the Swiss all-time best over the rarely run distance of 150 meters and undercut the limits for the World Championships in the 100 and 200 meters, where he reached the semi-finals over 200 meters. This year he was able to set clear personal bests both over 100 meters and over 200 meters.

At the European Championships in Helsinki in 2012 , he reached the semi-finals over 100 and 200 meters.

Schenkel graduated from the sports business school and graduated in 2009 with a federal diploma in business administration. He starts for the LV Winterthur .
