Reva Urban

Reva Urban (born October 15, 1925 in Coney Island , Brooklyn , New York City , † 1987 in New York City, USA ), was an American painter and graphic artist .

life and work

Reva Urban spent her youth in California . In 1941 she returned to New York and attended the Art Students League of New York on a Carnegie scholarship .

In 1949 she married the German painter Albert Urban (1909–1959), after whose death she was still married to George Robert Carley (1913–1993). From 1958 she exhibited her works nationally and internationally. In 1964, her works were shown at documenta III in Kassel in the 1964 Aspects Department .

Reva Urban represented the United States at two Salzburg festivals and a selection of her paintings and graphics went to various European museums under the auspices of the United States of America Information Service . She created many paintings and abstract mixed compositions from oil painting on layered wooden discs. She also worked as a graphic artist and created numerous lithographs . Her pictures were colorful and later turned to a new objectivity in the style of Pop Art .

Her works are part of many public and private collections, including the Museum of Modern Art , New York, the University Art Museum, Berkeley ; the Chicago Art Institute ; the Finch College Museum of Art , the University of Illinois Museum, and the Avethorp Gallery in Jenkintown .

Seriously ill, she worked in her studio until shortly before her death in 1987.
