Reveries End is a Finnish symphonic and gothic metal band from Tampere that was formed in 2011.

history

The band was founded in the spring of 2011 when guitarist Veli-Matti Olkinuora and drummer Timo Klinga came up with the first song ideas during a jam session . The friend Jaakko Oksanen joined the band as bass player. The singer Sariina Tani became aware of the group through an Internet advertisement and joined them, although a man had originally been sought as a singer. Guitarist Mikko Pylkkö can also be heard on the demo Beneath the Silent Shades , which was released in January 2012. At the next demo, Empyreal Form , which appeared in the same year, the group appears as a quartet. In May 2012 the guitarist Kristian Valjakka completed the formation. In 2016, the debut album Edge of Dark Waters was released via Sliptrick Records . In January of that year the band had announced the departure of Tanis.

style

Björn Backes from Powermetal.de wrote in his review of Edge of Dark Waters that the music tends towards epic Gothic Metal, whereby one is "not quite as penentrant on the symphonic way" as other bands would. However, the music is "as exciting as the umpteenth disc from the legacy of dead acts like TRISTANIA and SIRENIA ". The speed of the songs is usually very low, although the singing sounds conservative. Occasionally one also uses grunts in the songs . However, the focus is on the mixture of symphonic and gothic metal. Stephan Rajchl from metal1.info also reviewed the album and noted that the band itself describes their music as "Melancholic Metal". The clear singing is less operatic than that of Tarja Turunen and not as pop as that of Sharon den Adel . The guttural singing , however, reminds of Alissa White-Gluz . The clear vocals predominate, however. Among other things, by using keyboards sparingly, the group as a whole keeps away from the stereotype of kitschy symphonic and gothic metal bands.
