Reynosia is a genus from the family of the Buckthorn family (Rhamnaceae). It includes around 15 species mostly in Central America and the Caribbean. The name honors Alvaro Francisco Carlos Reynoso y Valdés (1829–1888), a Cuban agronomist and chemist.

Reynosia are evergreen shrubs or small trees whose leaves are arranged on opposite sides.

The flowers are sessile , axillary, umbel- like zymose fascicles or single flowers. The flower cup is briefly bell-shaped to hemispherical. Petals are missing. The discus that has grown together with the flower cup is fleshy. The ovary is on top. The fruits are drupes with a per stunted second trays einfächrigen stone core . The abundant endosperm in the seeds is hard.

Distribution and systematics

The Reynosia comprise around fifteen species and are native to southern North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

The genus was first described in 1866 by August Heinrich Rudolf Grisebach . Within the buckthorn family , it is classified in the tribe Rhamneae . The types include:
