The Rheinisch-Bergische Railway Company (short RBE) is a division of the railway company (TOC) Transdev Rheinland in public transport in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The RBE has been operating the 34 km long railway line from Kaarst via Neuss Hbf and Düsseldorf Hbf to Mettmann since September 26, 1999 (at that time still under the company Veolia Verkehr Rheinland GmbH) , with line S 28 of the S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr in the twenty Minute intervals .

As a railway infrastructure company and owner of the sections from Neuss to Kaarst and from Düsseldorf-Gerresheim to Mettmann, the client is Regiobahn GmbH , the regional railway company Kaarst-Neuss-Düsseldorf-Erkrath-Mettmann-Wuppertal mbH , in which the neighboring communities are involved.

The route is currently being extended beyond Mettmann to Wuppertal . In the future it is to be extended to Mönchengladbach via Kaarst .

On December 19, 2013, the Ministry of Building, Housing, Urban Development and Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia approved the submitted application for a permit to extend the S 28 from Mettmann-Stadtwald to Wuppertal Hbf. The construction work should be completed by the end of 2019. Construction began in spring 2014.

Freight transport

In the freight transport division, RBE operates freight transport services in the area of Düsseldorf, Duisburg and the surrounding area on behalf of the Teutoburger Wald-Eisenbahn . Trains run regularly from the Vallourec plant in Düsseldorf-Rath to the Duisburg-Ruhrorter Häfen marshalling yard .

Another task of the RBE is provisioning trips for the RE 10 of the NordWestBahn , whose trains are serviced in the Regiobahn depot in Mettmann.
