In addition, carnival clubs from Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands are members of the second largest carnival association in Germany.

The purpose is to promote and maintain the carnival customs in their cultural-historical and present-day form. This should be done by promoting friendly relationships between the associations at their own trade fairs, conferences and events such as B. the RKK day (3 years), the RKK music day (annually). The association publishes the association magazine “Die Bütt” (published quarterly on February 1st, May 1st, August 1st and November 1st). In addition, supraregional prince meetings or friendship meetings are organized or co-organized.

history

The RKK was founded on June 21, 1959 under the name " Regional Association of Carnival Corporations Rhein-Mosel-Lahn eV ", initially as a regional association in the BDK . In 1972 there was a separation from the BDK with 27 affiliated associations from originally 64 associations in the year it was founded.

In 1976 the association's headquarters were relocated to Koblenz . In the same year, Die Bütt was published for the first time as the association's own organ. In 1983 the first Rhineland-Palatinate championships in carnival dance sport , today Guard Dance , were held under the patronage of Minister of State Rudi Geil, which have been held annually since then. For this purpose, binding guidelines for their assessment have been drawn up.

In 1984, the election of a first took RKK- Funkenmariechens (annually) from the ranks of affiliated clubs instead. In the same year, the association's medals of merit in gold, silver and bronze were awarded to deserving carnivalists for the first time. In 1986 the area of the association was reorganized and since then it has been based more or less on the national borders . As a result, the now 24 districts also received a local district chairman.

In 1987 the first RKK Music Day was held in Mayen . This now takes place annually at different venues. In 1989 the first RKK day (3 years) took place in Zell (Mosel) as the largest friendship meeting for carnivalists with 169 clubs and around 8,000 people and over 15,000 spectators. In 1990 Carnival and Mardi Gras associations become non-profit, which is evident from a resolution passed by the RKK to the Mainz state parliament in 1986.

In 1999 the RKK was awarded the specialist media prize 1998 for "Die Bütt" as the best specialist magazine for carnival in Germany by the German Association of Journalists. 2001 saw the admission of the thousandth member association.

At the annual general meeting on October 15, 2005 in Bad Marienberg , the borders were opened, so that today all clubs in the German-speaking area that operate carnival, carnival and guard dance can become members. This is made clear by changing the name of the association to Rheinische Karnevals-Korporationen eV - headquarters in Koblenz.

In cooperation with the Mainz Ministry of Sports , the RKK organizes official state championships in guard dance sport in Rhineland-Palatinate with the state association for guard dance sport founded together with the BDK in the respective state sports federation.

In December 2006, the RKK changed its name to “Rheinische Karnevals-Korporationen eV” by resolution of the general assembly .

Since 2007 there have been official state championships in guard dance (carnival dance sport) in Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. At the end of each year, the respective winners determine the German champions in guard dance for children, juniors and seniors.
