The Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH (or shortly RMMV ) is a joint venture for the production of military wheeled vehicles of the two German companies Rheinmetall AG and MAN Truck & Bus AG . The approval by the Federal Cartel Office took place on February 22, 2010. The military wheeled vehicle activities of Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH and the military division of MAN Nutzfahrzeuge were merged into the company . The first merger step took place on May 1, 2010 and related to the areas of development and sales. With effect from January 1, 2012, the wheeled vehicle production in Kassel (previously Rheinmetall Landsysteme) and the truck plant in Vienna (previously MAN Nutzfahrzeuge Österreich AG) were transferred to the RMMV joint venture.

The Munich-based company employs around 1380 people in Amsterdam , Ede , Kassel , Munich and Vienna (as of February 2012).

In June 2019, it became known that Rheinmetall wanted to separate its tactical vehicle activities from the joint venture. The armored armored car division was completely taken over by Rheinmetall, while the military truck division continues to work with MAN.

On January 1, 2019, Rheinmetall increased its stake in the tactical wheeled vehicles business to 100% by repurchasing shares in the company that MAN Truck & Bus AG held in parts of the Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH (RMMV) joint venture. For this purpose, the division was carved out of Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH, which - today under the name Rheinmetall Military Vehicles GmbH (RMV) - is involved in the tactical vehicle sector. The area stands for products such as the Boxer and Fuchs armored vehicles or the Survivor R police vehicle.

In the field of logistical vehicles - i.e. military trucks - Rheinmetall and MAN are continuing their tried and tested collaboration. Rheinmetall AG continues to hold 51% of the shares in the joint venture, MAN 49%. The joint venture recently won major truck orders in Australia and with the German Armed Forces.

Corporate strategy

With the RMMV, Rheinmetall and MAN are pursuing the goal of bundling their military-technological capabilities in the field of tactical and logistical commercial vehicles . The joint venture is another important step in the course of European consolidation in the field of military vehicles. RMMV products are sold internationally. In the medium term, the company is aiming for annual sales of up to 1 billion euros .

The first public appearance at an industry-wide important trade fair took place on the occasion of the Eurosatory trade fair 2010 in Paris. The young company also presented itself at the IDEB 2010 ( Incheba Expo Bratislava / International Defense Exhibition Bratislava) in Bratislava .

The product range of the newly founded company is made up of the sum of the already existing military wheeled vehicles of both joint venture partners.

The product range of the former Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH was not transferred to Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH, insofar as it relates to the tracked vehicles sector, such as the Bundeswehr's Puma infantry fighting vehicle (in cooperation with Krauss-Maffei Wegmann ), the Marder infantry fighting vehicle and the mountains - and engineer tanks based on the Leopard 2 .

history

Due to the planned termination of 150 employees at the Vienna plant, the works council carried out a three-day hunger strike in front of the Vienna plant at the end of August 2013. The background to the savings plans is the sluggish business with armored vehicles and heavy vans for civil companies, fire engines for airports and concrete pumps.

200 employees were laid off, so that in 2015 600 people were still employed. Further social plans are being developed / implemented for 2015.

Participation in the joint venture

  • Rheinmetall AG: 51%
  • MAN Truck & Bus AG: 49%
