The Great Wreath Moss ( Rhytidiadelphus triquetrus ) is similar at first glance, the closely related Rhytidiadelphus squarrosus little. The leaves are heart-shaped and short-pointed. At the top of the stems they are also heaped in a clumpy manner. It is one of the largest native mosses. It used to be used to make wreaths and flower arrangements. Due to the acid rain , its stocks are currently declining.

It grows in extensive, fresh green lawns. The up to 20 cm long stems are irregularly pinnately branched. The flat edge of the leaf is slightly serrated up to the middle of the leaf. The double, thin midrib extends just above the center of the leaf. The thick-walled, worm-shaped lamina cells are spotted .
Occurrence and location requirements
The basiphilic moss is relatively undemanding. However, it prefers sunny, moderately moist locations. It mostly inhabits lime-poor, base-rich soil, humus, but also tree bases and rubble sites. It is a circumboreal moss that can be found in all of Central Europe in light forests and meadows. There it often grows together with other deciduous mosses such as Scleropodium purum , Hylocomium splendens , Thuidium tamariscinum and Plagiomnium undulatum .
