Rhytidiadelphus is a genus of pleurocarpic deciduous mosses in the Hylocomiaceae family . In the German-speaking world, they are also called Wrinkled Brother , Wrinkled Peter or Kranzmoos .
features
The representatives of this genus are large and strong mosses with up to 20 centimeters long, prostrate to upright and irregular to feathery branched plants in loose lawns. Paraphyllia are absent, pseudo- paraphyllia are scarce. The leaves are sparsely protruding to bent back or one-sided. They are gradually or suddenly pointed from the broad leaf base, with flat margins and often longitudinally folds. The leaf vein can either be completely absent or it is double, the length varies from very short to more than half the leaf length. The leaf cells in the middle of the leaf are linear, leaf wing cells are not or only poorly differentiated. The spore capsule on the long, smooth and dark red seta is egg-shaped, horizontal and high back. The species are diocesan .
Occurrence
The distribution extends over the temperate zones of the northern hemisphere, there are also occurrences in Australasia .
